Kostya

At the end of June Vladimir Putin signed the law of the prohibition of homosexuality among minors in Russia; at the beginning of July he introduced a ban on adoptions of Russian children by foreign same-sex couples. We visited little Kostya and his two moms to find out how Saint Petersburg same-sex couples with children manage nowadays. Continue reading ‘I am Kostya, I have two moms’.

Heated debates about ‘rainbow questions’ do not stop. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on the 26th of February that Russia – what a surprise – doesn’t have any international requirements to ‘allow the propaganda’ of homosexuality. Not long after then (21st of February) during a talk show called ‘Open discussions’ on Channel 5 (theme –“The same-sex question”) members of the ruling United Russia party, Maksim Mishenko and Vitaly Milonov, were shouting, interrupting each other: ‘There is an aggressive attempt to drag people into that society! That movement will conquer more and more people! The country is being corrupted by fornication and sin!’ And so it all began…Gays pervert children! Gays are recruiting supporters! Gays are filling our schools with propaganda! Propaganda, propaganda, propaganda, propagandapropagandapropaganda… Continue reading Where do gay teenagers come from?

‘Good day. I want to thank you for “The pervert state,” your material. I changed my mind about killing myself. Everyone told me that I am abnormal, a freak. I wanted to go. I had no more strength. So lonely, there was nobody around who would understand. But I realised that I am in fact normal. Thank you’.

‘Ok’.

Three days later we talked over the phone. Continue reading Children – ‘404’

Hello,

This is a blog dedicated to LGBT teenagers in Russia. Now, when the new homophobic laws have been put in force, children and teenagers are the most vulnerable part of Russia’s LGBT community, as the purpose of the law is to ‘protect minors from propaganda of homosexualism’. Russian politicians pretend that LGBT children and teenagers do not exist, making them virtually invisible – children 404, an error, those who are not found. Continue reading Children-404.
